Philippe Stephane
Philippe Patrick Francois

Philippe, Patrick anf Francois play diatonic arcordion. In spite of its size, smaller than an chromatic accordion it is not a toy, nor a study accordion for children. This accordion was invented around 1830 in Austria or Germany. Each button can play two notes depending if the musicien pushes or pulls on the bellows. This manner of playing make dances like polkas, waltzes,... more dynamic. This kind of accordion is used all around the word due to emigrants. Sailors and fishermen used it in theirs famous shanty songs because of its small size. The instrument nearly disappeared after Second World War, but come back into popularity in around 1970 and has never stopped since then.

Jean Christophe plays the "Béchonnet" bagpipe. First invented in the southern Auvergne region, it was improved by its creator, Mr Béchonnet, during the 19th century. It is quite similar to Central France bagpipes which date from the 14th century. The "Béchonnet" bagpipe is equiped with an additional drone and instead of blowing with the mouth, the musician uses bellows tied to his arm. The bagpipe used by JeanChristophe is tuned in G and C and was built by Mr Dubois in 1986.
